Decorated papers are both fun to create, and can be used for bookbinding, box making, collage, and more! In this workshop series we will learn two techniques for creating papers: paste paper and suminagashi marbling.

Paste papers are made using paint combined with paste, and using various tools and objects, applying designs directly to the paint/paste mixture while it is still wet. It’s like finger painting for grownups! You can make multiples of the same design in an edition, or make each sheet a unique design.

Suminagashi (“floating ink”) is the Japanese marbling style that uses ink and water. Applying ink and a surfactant via two brushes to the surface of the water, the resulting concentric circles can be manipulated with tools, or even just air, to create beautiful swirly designs that are then "printed" onto paper.

All materials provided.
