11 - 1:30 pm

Ages 16+

In this series we will conceptualize, plan, print, and bind our own artist books. You can choose to focus on either one to a few bound books, or a simpler zine structure that allows you to make a larger edition to share.

We will begin by reviewing a selection of book and zine structures, highlighting the Eight-Fold and the Accordion. Students will choose one of these, then learn how to plan narrative content for their artist books. Students will be printing imagery by carving Softkut blocks and printing on their pages with relief printing techniques. Students will spend the rest of the sessions designing, carving, and proofing your block(s), and then printing to align with your chosen structure. We will finish up by learning how to bind covers with paper or bookcloth.

If you have taken the previous Intro to Book Arts workshops, you can use the decorated paper you created and/or the structures you explored in that class seIries.

All materials provided.
